"A well-hung mirror is more than just an eye-catcher—it adds depth and elegance to your room. But how do you securely attach it to the wall?"

1. Preparation: The right tools and materials

Before you get started, make sure you have everything you need:

  • Drill (suitable for your wall type: concrete, plaster or brick)

  • Dowels and screws (suitable for the mirror weight)

  • Spirit level (so that the mirror hangs straight)

  • Pencil (for marking the drill holes)

  • Tape measure (for precise distances)

  • Vacuum cleaner or tape (to collect drilling dust)

2. Determine the perfect position for the mirror

✔ Hold the mirror in the desired position and lightly mark the top corners with a pencil.

✔ Measure the hangers on the back of the mirror and transfer the measurements to the wall.

✔ Use a spirit level to ensure that the drill holes are exactly in line.

3. The right mounting for your wall

Depending on the type of wall, you will need different dowels:

🏠 Concrete or brick walls : Standard plastic dowels or heavy-duty dowels for larger mirrors are suitable here.

🏡 Plasterboard walls : Use special cavity wall anchors or metal expansion anchors to ensure the mirror is held securely.

4. Drilling holes – this is how it's done correctly

✔ Place the drill at the marked spots and carefully drill into the wall.

✔ The drilling depth should be slightly longer than the dowels to ensure a stable hold.

✔ Hold the drill as straight as possible so that the screws do not sit crooked later.

✔ Vacuum the drilling dust directly or stick a sheet of paper with masking tape underneath to avoid dirt.

5. Securely attach the mirror

✅ Insert the dowels into the drilled holes and screw in the screws until they still protrude a little.

✅ Carefully hang the mirror and use the spirit level to check that it hangs straight.

✅ If your mirror has brackets or eyelets, hang it on the screws or hooks.

🎯 Tip: If you are unsure whether the screws can support the weight, test them with a load test beforehand.

Alternatively: Hang the mirror without drilling

If you don't feel like drilling, there are alternatives! The e lamirror full-length mirror, for example, can be easily hung like a painting without damaging the wall. Special mounting adhesives, adhesive tape, or hanging rails also offer a drill-free solution for light to medium-weight mirrors.

No matter which method you choose – with these tips your mirror will hang securely and stylishly on the wall!

❓ FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

1. Which dowels do I need for a heavy mirror?

For heavy mirrors on concrete or brick walls, heavy-duty anchors are the best choice. For drywall walls, you should use metal expansion anchors or cavity wall anchors.

2. How can I prevent my mirror from wobbling?

Make sure you use a spirit level and don't screw the screws too far or too loosely. You may want to glue felt pads to the back of the mirror to compensate for any unevenness.

3. Can I securely mount a mirror without drilling?

Yes! There are strong mounting adhesives, mirror tapes, and hanging strips that allow you to mount a mirror without drilling—especially for light to medium-weight mirrors.

4. How high should I hang my mirror?

It depends on the intended use. A full-length mirror should be mounted so that it starts at least 30 cm above the floor. A wall mirror above a dresser or sink should be centered at approximately eye level.
